A. Marouf’s EXTRAS Challenges Our Senses with Color,
Sound, and Silence
Toronto, ON — EXTRAS, the debut short film by Toronto-based writer and producer Ahmad
Marouf, invites audiences into a hypnotic exploration of desire and perception.
The film follows two characters — the Young Man (Foster Blake) and the Young Woman
(Daria Tazbash) — as they plunge into an uncertain relationship driven by impulses inspired
by the contrast between white and black.
Through a bold interplay of color, sound and silence, Marouf challenges viewers to look —
and listen — beyond the surface. What we see and hear compels us to revisit the film,
seeking not answers, but a deeper sense of understanding. And we will watch again.

About A. Marouf
Ahmad Marouf is a Toronto-based screenwriter and producer known for the feature film
I Was Once Told and the documentary One Heart, Two Homes, which he wrote and coproduced.
A former producer for National Syrian TV, reporter for Radio Canada
International, and a freelancer for CBC Radio One, Marouf’s scripts have received multiple
official selections, nominations, and finalist placements at international film and screenplay
competitions.
Based on his award-winning children’s story Sea of Pearls, his animated screenplay earned
an Official Selection at the 2021 Los Angeles Animation Festival.
